Taiwan IP Updates ¡V August 2025 By Lyndon ¡@ Taiwan Exports Boosted by AI Demand Due to Continued Patent Innovation In recent figures posted by the Ministry of Finance, for the 20th consecutive month export figures have continued to rise, led by advanced tech components and high end servers used in AI applications. In fact, 72% of total exports by value, according to the statistics released for June 2025, were for electronic and information and communications technology goods. Orders for high-performance chips and AI servers have soared, fueled by a global surge in data center investment. The US has also overtaken China as Taiwan’s largest export destination for a second straight month, as American tech giants such as, Amazon, Microsoft, and Google parent Alphabet Inc. have ramped up spending on AI infrastructure. The shift also reflects ongoing realignment in the global tech supply chain, as Taiwanese firms comply with US restrictions on advanced tech exports to China, as well as with further patent licensing agreements globally. At the same time, imports in June rose 17.3% to US 41.26 billion dollars, driven largely by surging purchases of capital equipment. Semiconductor firms led the way, with spending on production tools soaring 90.4% from a year earlier. On the other hand, the ministry warned of potential headwinds to come, citing lingering uncertainties over US tariffs, global interest rate policies, and possible weakness in consumer electronics demand in some markets. If the political climate in the world can remain stable, further improvements in the economic situation are likely due to the enormous sums being invested in R&D and the subsequent boost in patent holdings.
AI Robotics Alliance Established in Taiwan An AI robotics alliance was established in Taiwan in July, 2025. With the current boom in the AI field, there is the possibility of generating more than NT 1 trillion dollars in production value by 2030. The alliance was organized by six major business groups, including the Taiwan Automation Intelligence and Robotics Association (TAIROA). The other groups in the alliance are the Taiwan Machine Tool & Accessory Builders’ Association, the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry, the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association, the Taipei Computer Association, and the Cloud Computing and IoT Association in Taiwan. The group said that it would create five Taiwan-made robotics models under four platforms: automated mobile vehicles, foot-shaped robotics, humanoid robots and specialty design. The association said that Taiwan specializes in the development of tech gadgets used in robotics production such as controllers, sensors, chips, and electrical machinery, while also providing integrated system solutions and developing AI computing capabilities and smart software. The association said these strengths should help Taiwan set up an AI robotics ecosystem and develop AI robotics technologies up to international standards to help local products become competitive in the global market. Part of the effort will involve setting up a comprehensive supply chain in Taiwan, focused specifically on the development of decision support systems, power systems and control systems. TAIROA also mentioned that the alliance will introduce its products to eight major markets: health care, logistics, agriculture, manufacturing, caregiving, restaurants, disaster relief and patrolling. As patent applications pick up in the relevant fields, the establishment of the alliance is seen as especially timely as part of several concrete actions on innovation to pursue forward-looking technologies..
